John Francis Kennedy was born 28 December 1949 in Baltimore,
Maryland into a large Irish-American family. The oldest of five siblings,
he started drawing the first time he picked up a pencil at age one.
At age four his family moved to southern California where
he resided until age 19, at which time he was drafted into the Army and
served in Vietnam. Coming home he achieved his BA in painting from San Jose
State University in 1976.
In 1977 he fell in love with and married Lupe Olveda,
a Mexican-American from a California migrant background. Times were tough
for an unknown artist with a growing family, so he returned to school and
took engineering classes in order to find gainful employment
After years of working as a designer/graphic artist, he
went back to his first love--painting. His work has been exhibited in galleries
all over California.
Kennedy now lives in central California working as a teacher,
lecturer, artist and writer.
Major shows include:
Healing the Wounds: Vietnam Veterans & The Arts
The Biennale International - Florence, Italy 2003
Bakersfield Musem of Art - Visual Arts Festival
